米労働省の最低賃金神話バスターズ

アメリカ連邦労働省のホームページに、「最低賃金神話バスターズ」（Minimum Wage Mythbusters）というページが出来てます。

ゴーストバスターズならぬ、神話バスターズの腕前はいかがでしょうか？

Myth: Increasing the minimum wage will cause people to lose their jobs.

Not true: A review of 64 studies on minimum wage increases found no discernable effect on employment. Additionally, more than 600 economists, seven of them Nobel Prize winners in economics, have signed onto a letter in support of raising the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2016.

神話：最低賃金を引き上げたら人々は仕事を失うことになる。

嘘だよ：最低賃金の引き上げに関する６４もの研究で雇用への感知しうる影響は見出されていない。その上、７人のノーベル賞受賞者を含む６００人の経済学者が２０１６年までに最低賃金を１０．１０ドルに引き上げることに賛成の手紙に署名している。

Myth: Small business owners can't afford to pay their workers more, and therefore don't support an increase in the minimum wage.

Not true: A June 2014 survey found that more than 3 out of 5 small business owners support increasing the minimum wage to $10.10. Small business owners believe that a higher minimum wage would benefit business in important ways: 58% say raising the minimum wage would increase consumer purchasing power. 56% say raising the minimum wage would help the economy. In addition, 53% agree that with a higher minimum wage, businesses would benefit from lower employee turnover, increased productivity and customer satisfaction.

神話：零細企業主はもうこれ以上労働者に払う余裕がないので、最低賃金の引き上げを支持していない。

嘘だよ：２０１４年６月の調査では、零細企業主の５人の３人以上が最低賃金の１０．１０ドルへの引き上げに賛成している。零細企業主は、最低賃金をもっと高くすることが重要なやり方でビジネスに有益だと信じている。彼らの５８％は最低賃金引き上げが消費者の購買力を高めると言い、５６％は最低賃金引き上げが経済を活性化するという。さらに５３％が、最低賃金の引き上げで従業員の離職率を下げ、生産性を高め、消費者の満足に役立つと考えている。

というような感じで、まさしく、ゴーストならぬ「最低賃金神話」をバストしていきます。

私の無知を告白します。

わたくしは、「Minimum Wage Mythbusters」という字面を見て、その昔見た映画のゴーストバスターズしか思い浮かべることが出来ませんでしたが、それはまことに教養のなさを露呈するものでありました。

「Mythbusters」ってのは、都市伝説を検証するというテレビ番組のタイトルだったんですね。

怪しい伝説（あやしいでんせつ、原題: MythBusters）は、オーストラリアのBeyond International制作、ディスカバリーチャンネルおよびBBC 2で放送されているテレビ番組である。アメリカでは2003年から放送されている。

そうか、アメリカ労働省の担当官は、当然それを知っている人を前提にこのＱ＆Ａを作ったわけですな。
